CABVI’s Dark Dining Returns to Utica
Utica, NY — The Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI) hosted their signature Dark Dining event on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at the Delta Hotels by Marriott in Utica. The event offered a powerful, immersive experience designed to raise awareness about life with vision loss.
Before dinner, guests explored cutting-edge assistive technology, including Meta smart glasses and other tools that help individuals with vision loss navigate daily life. Freedom Guide Dogs was also present during the cocktail hour, giving guests the opportunity to meet Iris, the future guide dog sponsored by CABVI, and learn more about the vital role guide dogs play in supporting mobility and confidence.
Attendees then participated in a multi-course gourmet dinner while blindfolded or wearing simulation glasses that mimicked conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic retinopathy. This sensory experience offered guests a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by those who are blind or visually impaired.
Proceeds from Dark Dining directly supports CABVI’s mission to empower people with vision loss through programs and services that promote independence, inclusion, and opportunity.
